Special Announcement! (12/17/06)GIBSONVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WELCOMES MR. JIM GUNN!The Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee is pleased to announce that Mr. Jim Gunn will now be serving as our new Director of Music. Jim has a long history of singing bass with our Chancel Choir and brings a variety of gifts and talents to share with this congregation. We are blessed to have such a talented and gifted musician leading the music ministry of the church. We welcome Jim in his new, expanded role.
Music is an important ministry at the Gibsonville United Methodist Church. It supports and complements the regular church service, and gives our members yet another outlet for praise and worship. Under the planning and guidance of Jim Gunn, the Music Ministry comprises the youth and children's music program (Cherub, Carol and Youth Choirs), the Chancel Choir, the Men's Chorus, and the latest addition, the Hand Bell Choir. Cherub ChoirThe Cherub Choir comprises 3 year olds through the 1st grade. They rehearse on Sunday mornings from 9:30 until 9:45, a time of making a joyful noise and praise with singing, playing instruments, dramatic skits, and creative movement. Carol ChoirThe Carol Choir is for children in grades 2 through 5. They rehearse on Sunday morning from 9:00 until 9:30. This choir includes singing, drama presentations, puppets and dance. Youth ChoirThe Youth Choir is for 6th through 12th graders. They rehearse on Sunday evenings from 7:00 to 7:40. This choir sings youth anthems, drama presentations and musicals. Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir prepares and leads the music worship each Sunday. They also participate in other special worship services including seasonal cantatas and musicals. [Music Catalog] Men's ChorusThe men from the Chancel Choir especially enjoy singing the ol' timey hymns, mostly from the 1938 Cokesbury Worship Hymnal. They sing occasionally at the regular Sunday worship service, have given special Sunday afternoon programs, and have preliminary plans to visit assisted living facilities in the area to sing for some people who remember when these were the songs they sang in church. Hand Bell ChoirThe Gibsonville United Methodist Church Hand Bell Choir is a newly formed 3 1/2 octave choir. Members include older adults, young adults, and teens. |
