The ME Church, South is organized

Florida statehood

Texas annexed

1851 Joseph Gibson, Andrew’s son, graded the road bed for North Carolina Railroad.
1854 The depot was built
1855 The first train came through. The area around the depot was named Gibsonville in honor of Joseph Gibson

1871

The “Town of Gibsonville” was chartered by the NC General Assembly.

 

Great Chicago fire

1887

 

 

Mr. Berry Davidson established the original cotton mill in Gibsonville.

The Methodist Protestant Church, the first church in Gibsonville, was built.

 

 

1906

Rev. Raper, an ME Pastor, conducted a religious service in Gibsonville.

 

San Francisco earthquake and fire

1907

The Methodist Episcopal Church, South was organized in Gibsonville.

 

 

1911

New Gibsonville ME Church building was completed.

 

 

1938

Gibsonville ME and MP congregations merged.

 

 

1945

 

The “hut” that housed the Sunday School was replaced with the Education Building

 

United Nations organized

Harry Truman inaugurated

WW II ends

1962

The Methodist Church sanctuary was replaced with a new, modern building

 

Cuban missile crisis

1968

We became the Gibsonville United Methodist Church .

Establishment of the United Methodist Church

 

2002

"Forward in Faith" and "Advancing in Faith" campaigns funded a major refurbishment of both the sanctuary and the Education Building
