Community Thanksgiving Dinner Worship at Friedens Lutheran Church, November 24 at 5:00pm: We need a head count for the Thanksgiving dinner worship by November 5. The idea behind dinner worship is to blur the lines between dinner and worship so thoroughly that dinner is worship and worship is dinner. There will be some singing, some praying, lots of eating, table fellowship discussing a scripture and a reflection based upon lessons we learn from Jesus eating with people, and ending with the dessert bar being opened up at the end encouraging people to get up and move around and make new friends. Please bring a side and dessert dish to share. Friedens will supply the meat, and drinks, and sides and desserts as well. Please let Pastor Barry email@example.com or email the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org if you plan to attend by November 5 or fill out the small insert in today’s bulletin and drop it in the offering plate. We now have 32 signed up!! Please let Pastor Barry know if you would like to attend!!
UMW Fund Raiser The GUMC Women voted to start a new Fund Raiser. This fund will enable us to build a shelter/cover for our new bus which will help it last longer being protected. We need $4000 for the cover and a portion of the 2 side panels. We can add more panels later but need to construct the shelter before cold weather. Please help us raise at least $4000. Please make your checks payable to GUMC and mark “Van Cover.” You can do honorariums, memorials or donations. Thanks in advance for your participation.
United Methodist Women's Christmas Dinner: The United Methodist Women's Christmas Dinner will be held on Monday, December 2nd at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $12.00 and can be purchased from Susan Bland, Maxine Cheek, Denise Little or Carol Younger. All women are invited. The mission this year will be the GUMC Emergency Assistance Fund that helps those who come by the church needing help with food, gas, or utility bills. Deadline to purchase tickets is November 24th.
Decorating the Sanctuary for Advent: Volunteers are needed (especially men) to help decorate the Sanctuary by putting up the Chrismon Tree on Saturday, November 30th at 9:30am. Contact the church office at (336) 449-4810 or email email@example.com for additional information.
Upcoming Circle Meetings: Circle 3 November 18th at Blakley Hall. Circle 2 November 26th 11:30 in church parlor.
UM Men's Night out: Tuesday November 19th 6:30 at Kimbers Restaurant.
Coffee Time: Are you interested in meeting other members of the church and getting to know them better? Want an opportunity to enjoy Christian fellowship over a cup of coffee? Please come join us for “Coffee Time” in the Church Fellowship Hall! We will meet every Wednesday in September at 10:00 am. All adults are invited to come. Coffee and light snacks will be provided, all you need to bring is yourself (and a friend if you like!). Since this is a new opportunity for fellowship, after September the day and time to meet may change based on the interests of the group. Please check future Newsletters and the Bulletins for updates. For more information please contact Teresa Merner at 336-446-2090.
5th Sunday Mission - Candy for Trunk or Treat It's Never Too Early for Halloween!! I know summer is barely over, but...Halloween is around the corner. Each year we host around 900 children at our Trunk or Treat event. At least one car will hand out information about the church and a Christian item. SO...let’s get moving. Please purchase individually wrapped candy and bring to the bins at the church in the welcome center or narthex closet. If you prefer you can donate money and we will buy in bulk at BJs.
Our September 5th Sunday Mission on 9/29/19 will also be collecting candy for Trunk or Treat. We will also need volunteers to decorate their trunks and set up in the parking lot across the street on Halloween night to hand out candy. Thank you in advance for your donations and support.
Children and Youth Update:
We are in the beginning phases of consultation with a firm named Ministry Architects. Their specialty is in helping churches to aggressively pursue their own strengths for ministry in their own settings. MA will help us build a sustainable ministry with children and youth; the focus is with both short-term and long-term goals in mind. They will consult with people in the church, stay with us for a period of months to hold us accountable for the plan we develop, and even offer staff recruitment and follow-up coaching for leaders and staff. Watch for more info to come! And pray about our children and youth ministries! And also remember to thank God for what Ryan Waide and Aaron Menconi have done with and for our children and youth programs.
