UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES

Thank you to everyone that donated goods during our Blessing of 3 Meals a Day Food Drive.

Your participation will help keep SAFE’s shelves stocked for those in need.

A Praise& Worship Benefit Concert for SAFE will be

held at First United Methodist in Elon on May 30th from 3 to 5 p.m. Come

and join us in song and in worship as churches of all denominations from across

Alamance and Guilford Counties come together to support SAFE, a Family

Empowerment Center that serves neighbors in Alamance, Guilford, and Orange

Counties. In 2025, SAFE served 8,000 families at its three locations, providing

meals, a nursing clinic, resource connections, social work services, and many

more programs. A Love Offering to benefit SAFE will be collected during the

service.

Belong Groups willmeet on July 21st at 10 a.m. & 5:30 p.m. Belong is a group spiritual

practice that strengthens relationships through communal discernment. Groups

last an hour or less and newcomers are welcome!

The Story ScholarshipCommittee will meet this afternoon at 3 p.m.

Summer Feeding Program for Children: For the last two years, GUMC has offered a summer feeding

program with support from SAFE. This year, we will instead be a partner in

SAFE’s summer feeding program for children, serving as a pick-up location to

make it easy for families with ties to the church to get their food each

week. The program runs from the week of June 1 through the week of August

17, with each child receiving 14 meals per week. Families who want to

participate need to register through SAFE, using the QR code. If you want to

pick up your food at the church, please note GUMC where it asks for the

address. We do not know yet what day of the week GUMC will offer food pick

up. Once we do, we will need a few volunteers each week to help distribute the

food to families. Let Michelle Rash or Jane Deaton know if you have any

questions.

We will have workdays to prepare for VBS on Thursday, May 21 at 7,

Thursday, May 28 at 7 and Saturday, June 6 at 1. During these times we will

make decorations, sort supplies and do other organizational tasks.

We will celebrate all our graduates during worship on Sunday, June 7. If you or someone in your family will be graduating, please let Michelle

Rash or the church office know by May 31 so we can plan accordingly.

Gibsonville Public Library is sponsoring a Summer Reading Program for children ages 6–18 from June 22 through August 1. The program will take place each weekday from 12:00–1:00 p.m., and lunch will be provided during that time. GUMC has been invited to support the program by providing lunches from July 27–31. Additional details about the number of meals needed and food preferences will

be shared after the program begins. If you are interested in helping with this

project, please contact Jane Deaton or the church office.

The United Women in Faith is collecting Jewelry for the

Residential Treatment Services of Alamance for their huge jewelry fundraiser in

Sept. Look for a box in the Welcome Center in which to place your unwanted

jewelry, watches, cufflinks, etc. Please put jewelry in Ziplock bags so all

pieces stay together. Questions?  Contact

Shirley Beyer 336-584-6911.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Nurseries: The nursery is available at both services for babies - 5 years old.

Kingdom Kids: Kingdom Kids meets on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:45 pm. Dinner is provided each week for children and volunteers.

Children’s Sunday School: We are using the Sunday School curriculum “Two or More.” This curriculum provides children with Bible-rich experiences and grow in faith together. It is designed to be a one-room curriculum, bringing elementary-aged children together to be seen, known and loved. The elementary Sunday School class meets each Sunday morning on the second floor of the church.

Tween Youth Group: The tweens meet on Sundays from 4 to 5:15.

Tween Sunday School: On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, we offer two separate tween Sunday School classes, one for 5th and 6th graders and one for 7th and 8thgraders. Both use the Bible Studies for Life curriculum and meet on the lower level of the church.

High School Ministry (9th through 12th grade): We are exploring options for a winter or spring retreat for our high school youth. We are also in early discussions with other local churches about doing collaborative events with their youth on a regular basis.
